Chuck Darnell / Quincy Illinois     April 2003

After receiving SNOWBALL I carefully inspected all the work done by my predecessors and thus far all work was still intact . I thought I would start by removing a few superficial ghost lines around the left and right top and side windows .

During my first attempt to do a little surgical sanding, I noticed the body was a bit soft from all previous repairs and modifications . At this point I allowed the body to gas out for a couple of months and then went to work where I left off with my finish work .

After successfully completing my mission, I fell in a dilemma. So many modifications had been made that I didn't know what to do!  I waited for a vision, and daring to be different I decided to go with a subtle, scallop luggage rack to give SNOWBALL a mild, devious look. I started with .025 round evergreen plastic rod and formed it to shape.

After forming the scallops it was time to install them in there rough state.

With the scallops installed, it was time for a little sanding to smooth down all the edges and flatten the round stock to make it flow into the top.

After a bit more finish sanding it was time for a light shot of primer and then on to the next builder . Just being able to participate in PROJECT SNOWBALL has been the highlight of my modeling career.

SNOWBALL is a beautiful work of art and she's very fragile . And with every modification she takes on a new personality that I'm sure will continue to turn every head in the room . I feel very honored to participate in a piece of modeling history..
