May 2010
When I was small, and christmas trees were tall,
We used to love while others used to play.
Don’t ask me why, but time has passed us by,
Some one else moved in from far away.

the bomb nose is 2/3rds empty.
the long and winding road....
so we were trimming the Rotadendrum's out back, when Carol said there was a hole under one of them.. so we started dropping rocks, 2 trailers (see below) full of dirt, and THREE bags of cement.. come to find out what we feared being a ground hog hole turned out to be a cisterne from the 19th century. .
it's directly under this one.
we ("I") cut down the other one...
this is the slider in the great room. It's been a thorn in my side since before we moved in.

all things considered, it was very reasonably priced with the installation, the only downfall was the month wait after ordering it for Lowes to install it .. guess they cant work in the rain.
this is our next door neighbors new paver patio. She bought too many pavers so we helped her out and bought all the extras.
4 trailer fulls of pavers...
garden trailer fulls that is...

Max didn't help at all..
Jason and Lisa gave us this grill 12 years ago.. but it's time seems to be nearing an end.. it's been a great grill.. lotsa culinary memoirs
May comes to a close in a peculiar way..
tree trimming for a new runner we're putting in here for Maxwell
this is how May ends.. with a pretty shot...
Remember.. we're from the big city, so this homesteading thing is new to us, so here's what a cistern is...
A cistern (Middle English cisterne, from Latin cisterna, from cista, box, from Greek kistê, basket) [1] is a waterproof receptacle for holding liquids, usually water. Often cisterns are built to catch and store rainwater. Cisterns are distinguished from wells by their waterproof linings. Modern cisterns range in capacity from a few litres to thousands of cubic metres, effectively forming covered reservoirs
I guess in the old days (remember this house originates back to 1850) they collected rain water in an underground cistern for bathing, flushing etc etc. See, you learned something new today.
